Press Release #1
Saturday, August 31, and Tuesday, September 3, Show in Rovereto
The 2024 edition of Palio Città della Quercia will be special, marking its 60th anniversary. Over the decades, the meeting in Rovereto has grown to become the second most important in Italy, only surpassed by the Golden Gala, and it consistently ranks high in European and international standings.
To celebrate this milestone, the organizing committee, led by Gruppo Atletico Palio Città della Quercia has planned something special: a men’s pole vault competition under the dome of MART, the Museum of Modern Art designed by Mario Botta and Giulio Andreolli. This event on the evening of Saturday, August 31 (start at 19:30 CET), will kick off the rest of the meeting’s program, scheduled for Tuesday, September 3.
Art and sport will come together for one evening, reconnecting two pillars of Rovereto’s history and culture. MART has frequently supported Palio Città della Quercia over the years, hosting several closing parties under its dome.
The 60th Palio will thus open on Saturday, August 31, following the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea, which will feature the women’s pole vault. Three days later, on Tuesday, September 3, the rest of the program will unfold with 15 events more, including youth, Fisdir, and master competitions to heat up the track atmosphere. The detailed technical program for the 60th Palio Città della Quercia International Meeting is as follows:
Men’s Events: 100m, 400m, 800m, 1500m U23, 3000m, 110m hurdles, High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Put, Pole Vault (August 31)
Women’s Events: 100m, 400m, 800m, 1500m U23, 3000m, 100m hurdles, Long Jump
In 2024, Palio Città della Quercia is part of the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver, the third global circuit of events alongside cities like Kingston, Jerusalem, Athens, and Berlin. This organizational effort, year after year, ensures significant media coverage for Rovereto, certified by live broadcasts on RAI and major global networks through SportFive’s distribution.

Press Release #2
Excitement in Pole Vault at Palio Città della Quercia
On August 31st, 2005, Giuseppe Gibilisco soared to 5.81m, winning over Ukrainian Korchmid and American Walker. This measure remains the record for the Palio Città della Quercia, held by the 2003 World Champion and 2004 Olympic bronze medalist.
Gibilisco’s record is part of a rich tradition in pole vaulting at Stadio Quercia, which includes Italian records by Renato Dionisi (5.45m in June 1972) and Roberta Bruni, who reached 4.72m in August 2022, matching the mark set by American Stacy Dragila at the same venue 20 years earlier.
August 31st is a significant date. Nineteen years later, on the same day, pole vaulting will take center stage in Rovereto. As previously announced, on August 31, the steel and glass dome of MART – Museum of Modern Art – will host an exclusive competition featuring top global athletes on a specially arranged platform, set against one of the symbols of southern Trentino.
This calendar coincidence highlights the numerous emotions experienced over 59 editions of Palio Città della Quercia, including the thrilling contest last year involving Britain’s Molly Caudery and Switzerland’s Angelica Moser, who went on to win the indoor world title in Glasgow and the European title at Rome’s Olympic Stadium, respectively.
In 2024, the pole vault event will focus on men, as the women’s competition will be featured at the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea the previous day in Rome’s Olympic Stadium. Decisions on the participants will be made after the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, held from August 1-11. The organizing committee, led by Gruppo Atletico Palio Città della Quercia and US Quercia DAO Conad, is preparing the roster for the competition at Mart and the events on Tuesday, September 3, when Stadio Quercia will host one of the year’s major global events.
